Job Description:

The Underwriting Governance Analyst plays a key role in ensuring underwriting practices align with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk management frameworks. This position is responsible for monitoring underwriting processes, analyzing compliance with governance standards, and providing recommendations to enhance operational effectiveness and mitigate risk. You will work closely with the RSAL Corporate Underwriting Team, Technical Solutions (UK&I) team, Global Specialty Lines colleagues and other key Senior Leaders to keep the Underwriting system of governance effective and aligned with requirements.

You will need depth and breadth of Commercial and Speciality Underwriting, business knowledge and experience. You will need appropriate information analysis experience and knowledge of analytic tools and systems and the ability to liaise with the Data Management team to drive the quality and consistency of underwriting activities. Experience with underwriting audit and governance frameworks is desirable.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Reporting to the Head of Technical Excellence, support the CUO team with the development and delivery of (in alignment with UKI and SL stakeholders) RSAL’s underwriting governance, validation and control frameworks to deliver adequate quality controls across the Underwriting function.
  •  Governance & Compliance: Ensure underwriting activities adhere to company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. 
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track and analyse underwriting performance and compliance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement. 
  • Policy & Process Review: Assist in the development, implementation, and review of underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Audit & Quality Assurance: Support internal audits and quality control processes by assessing underwriting decisions for compliance and consistency.
  • Risk Management: Identify governance risks and collaborate with stakeholders to implement appropriate controls and risk mitigation strategies.
  •  Training & Support: Provide guidance and training to underwriting teams on governance policies, ensuring a strong understanding of compliance requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting, risk, legal, and compliance teams to ensure alignment on governance initiatives and regulatory changes.
  • Action Tracking: Monitor and track governance-related action items, ensuring timely completion and adherence to due dates

 

Skills and Experience:

Function specific:

  • Proven experience in Underwriting, Enterprise Risk Management, or Legal & Compliance across a broad range of insurance products.
  • Excellent written and oral skills with a proficiency in spelling and grammar.
  •  A sound understanding of:
  • General Insurance principles across commercial and specialty lines.
  • RSA risk appetite, business strategy, and the UK&I operations, 
  • IFC / RSA Underwriting Policy and guiding principles,
  • IFC / RSA Delegation of Technical Authority Frameworks (internal and external to RSA),
  • EU and UK Regulatory environment for underwriting and the principles of the underwriting control environment
  • Experience of working across internal functions ensuring strong relationship management with internal stakeholders and a collaborative working culture.
  • Experience of developing capabilities to support and grow line of business capabilities.
  • Experience of supporting and delivering projects.
  • Report writing/presentation skills
  • Proficiency in working with MS Office applications General:
