Senior Financial Analyst
This role plays a crucial role in financial planning, analysis and decision-making support. The role involves working within the Finance Business Partnering team & is about supporting the team on various workstreams but also leading certain workstreams.
You will be an integral member of the team, working closely with the BP & Finance teams to analyse & understand P&L movements, ensure that reporting requirements are delivered & lead the month end process on the BP team.
You will be involved in planning & forecasting, coordinating the process & preparing reporting packs. You will lead the Finance competitor analysis by providing timely market insight to the business in order to improve market knowledge & decision making. You will also be involved in various ad hoc workstreams as they arise which will provide you with greater exposure to the wider business
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the BP team month end process by liaising with Financial Reporting/Analysis team and other functions, including management to gain understanding of financial performance
- Preparing monthly financial reports on GWP, NEP, Combined ratio and UW result
- Carrying out financial and data analysis and compiling reports for various business purposes including:
- Monitoring, management and reporting of business and financial performance metrics in order to provide insights on segment profitability and market trends
- Input to, analysis & reporting on strategic & operational planning & forecasting
- Development or assessment of business cases, supporting new product launches and similar to ensure strategic fit and commercial feasibility
- Interpreting financial information to determine causality, significance, business impact or implications and developing advice to support the BP team in discussions with the business
- Developing, managing and maintaining financial model to forecast premiums, claims, expenses and profitability
- Driving automation and process improvements in financial planning, forecasting & modelling
- Leading the Finance inputs into the Strategic Change competitor analysis & market overview including gathering all relevant information, analysing trends & providing key reports & insights into the market in order to enable better decision making
- Leading the annual budgeting process, working closely with business partners, underwriting, sales & marketing, actuaries & claims teams
- Preparing reports on rolling forecasts / scenarios on a regular or ad hoc basis to reflect changes in the market, claims trends and operational performance
- Presenting key financial drivers to leadership and supporting strategic decision making by ensuring reporting of information and interpretation is presented clearly, unambiguously and in a readily comprehensible format appropriate for the audience in question
- Engaging and collaborating with Finance Business Partners (BP's) and the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team to deliver high quality outputs in the most effective ways and to share insights and lessons learned
- Leading and/or contributing to a wide variety of projects and initiatives as required, potentially including corporate transactions
- Identifying cost optimisation opportunities in claims handling and expense management
Requirements:
- A Qualified Accounting professional, or equivalent relevant experience, with a minimum of 3 plus years post qualification experience
- May have operational and/or management experience in other business areas besides Finance.
- Experience of working with senior people in a challenging commercial context
- Proven ability to work with the business to understand and interpret the practical business implications of financial data.
- Proven ability to anticipate business performance issues/opportunities, provide insights and recommend appropriate action.
