The Team:
Working in our IT & Transformation team, reporting into our Head of Demand Management. We have our Application and Infrastructure estate outsourced, however our Project Management and Business Analyst capability is our own. We would now like to improve our QA and Test capability, taking ownership of these into our team.

Our test capability has been distributed across our projects, rather than being centralised. We’d like to bring them together, and increase the capability in doing so, both by means of a more deliberate test strategy, as well as extending the extent of test automation. This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead raise the bar on quality.

You will be directly involved in defining the QA and Test Strategy, enhancing our current capability (best practice processes, team support, tools etc) and owning the position of our Test Environments.
You will work closely with our Project Delivery and Business Analyst teams to deliver a quality product to our business through our test environments into Live.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of our QA and Test Strategy. Focus required on the QA capability.
  • Develop, implement and maintenance of appropriate test strategies, processes, standards and guidelines.
  • Work with Projects and Small Change to define suite of artefacts and test plan required on a given piece of work. Agree involvement on each project (either actively involved or monitoring).
  • Oversight and ultimate sign-off on test plans, test scenarios, test cases - including execution and documenting results.
  • Maintain central repository of test artefacts. Will also support our move to more automated testing.
  • Establish QA deliverables for our delivery partners to ensure that developed software is primarily free of defects. Drive the QA process and have appropriate Governance in place.
  • Work with Development (and Infrastructure) teams to ensure clear entry and exit criteria while moving through environments.
  • Define and implement quality process improvements and metrics focused on defect prevention. Including appropriate defect tracking process/tool.
  • Maintaining a view of all phases of testing: System, Integration, User Acceptance and Performance Testing.
  • Oversight of the relevant test environments e.g. what's going in, access, ownership of issues. Maintain and publish high-level schedule.
  • Education and support to our business test resources on best practice testing techniques. Offer support and mentoring on best practice to the QA team and Testers.
  • Developing test automation strategies and leading automation testing efforts
  • Risk and Issue management - related to testing, environments.
  • People management - of a small team (to be established) and virtual team (using business and project resources)

 
Requirements:

  • Ideally 5 years plus as QA or Test Management experience in a software engineering environment.
  • 5+ years of hands on software QA or Testing experience
  • Experience with defect tracking tools.
  • Exposure to automated test tools/scripts,
  • Demonstrable experience in defining and implementing test processes and test strategies across various technologies.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a Test Automation strategy.
  • Expert in understanding of traditional and Agile SDLC's. DevOps or Agile experience a bonus.
  • Demonstrable experience in defining and implementing test processes and test strategies across various technologies.
  • A deep understanding of test planning and delivery challenges

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Third level qualification in IT / Computer Science (would be an advantage).
  • ISTQB Certification (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 Full Life Cycle system delivery implementations in a testing role.
  • SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • People and team management (both direct and virtual).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organised with a strong attention to detail.
  • Keen to teach but also to learn, adapt and adopt in our environment.
  • Broad knowledge of project delivery methodologies and standards.
  • Excellent understanding of quality assurance processes, standards, methodologies, and tools with a hands-on approach.
